Corfu or Kerkira as it is known in Greek is situated in the Ionion Sea close to Italy's Adriatic Sea it is a very lush Island which is why it is also called The Emerald Isle. The old town of Corfu was built under Venetian occupation and the architecture reflects this.
This Island became a favorite destination for British people largely due to the fact that Prince Philip was born here. The British influence is plain to see - with the one and only cricket pitch in Greece located near the central square of Corfu town.
